Prelude to Light
Hebrews: Seen in the Light of the Truth.
God's Word was given First to the Jew and the Jewish Converts.
Portions of the ecclesia, called the church, not knowing of the early Jewish culture and the languages of the day, have developed gross misconceptions concerning the intent of the letter called Hebrews. The letter was written to the Jewish converts who obviously lived in the time of Christ Jesus. The Epistle to the Hebrews was not designed by the writer, most likely Paul, to be parsed over, and erroneously deemed to be God's doctrine speaking to the gentile church/ecclesia. The main purpose of the letter was to address, some of the misunderstandings of the Jewish converts that had come to believe in Messiah Yeshua/Jesus. The letter was written directly to the new Jewish believers, too clarify the fullness of God's New Covenant in the Sacrificial Life giving Blood of Jesus Christ.
Unfortunately, much of the leadership of the protestant churches, have established their own stumbling blocks that are continually perpetuated by puppet pastors in their circuitous circles of learning. The various catholic churches also have developed their own corrupt teachings that imprisons their people to the vanity of the institutions. We will see in the heresies that the teachers on this Holy Matter, in their error, have given license to sin, and have dismissed God's New Covenant of Sanctifying Grace through His Spirit. God's Holy Spirit of Grace provides within our thanksgiving Communion with the Almighty, the Body and Life giving Blood of the Almighty's Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Now the Truth of Holy Communion for repentant believers, is erroneously seen by the evangelical as a superfluous doctrine by superstitious men. The ignorant teachings of finite man have supplanted the fullness of the Infinite Holy God's New Covenant Doctrine that He eternally established in the Life Giving Sacrifice of Jesus Christ, Yeshua haMashiach.
To the Jewish converts, the author begins to expound upon the supreme greatness of the Messiah of Yahweh God.
In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways: But in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, Whom He appointed Heir of all things, and through Whom also He made the universe. The Son is the Radiance of God’s Glory and the exact Representation of His Being, sustaining all things by His powerful Word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. (Hebrews 1 verse 1 thru 3. NIV)
On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Lord Yeshua/Jesus instituted the New Covenant in His Blood for the remission of the sins of His Disciples. Drink all of you. This is My Blood of the New Covenant, shed for many for the remission of sin. Christ Jesus, was the Lamb of God, crucified before the foundation of the world, and Jesus, hanging from the cross, declared with His last breath, "It is finished" and died for the sins of the world. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. The Truth for why God's Son came to earth, was confirmed in Christ's/Messiah's crucifixion death, and resurrection into the Life of His Father. Sin does not cease in the human flesh, not even in the saved Christian, but all sin must be humbly released into the crucified Hands of our High Priest, the Man Christ Jesus.
For unto which of the angels said God at
any time: Thou art My Son
this day have I begotten Thee.
(See Psalm 2 verse 7 and Hebrews 1 verse 5.)
And to His Son, the Almighty God declares of Christ:
Thy Throne, O God, is for ever and ever:
A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Thy Kingdom. Thou has loved
righteousness and hated iniquity; therefore God, Thy God, has anointed Thee with
the oil of gladness above Thy fellows.
(Compare Hebrews 1 verse 8 thru 12, and Psalm 45 verse 6 thru 7, and Psalm 102 verse 24 thru 28, and Psalm 110 verse 1.)
For we see Jesus/Yeshua, Who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor; that He by the Grace of God should taste death for every man. (Hebrews 2 verse 9.)
brothers and sisters,
who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus/Yeshua, Whom we acknowledge as our Apostle and High Priest. (NIV) (Hebrews 3 verse 1) God's heavenly calling, is to the author's brothers and sisters of Jewish blood, who have first answered the calling of God.
God's Calling to His free Gift of faith, provides the Way for the Promise of God's Holy Spirit of Life, to be given to those with believing obedience in the Way, the Truth, and the Life of Christ Jesus. Therefore, in abiding within Christ, we are promised an entrance into the Almighty's Rest thorough our obedient faith in the Word of Christ Jesus. (See John 14 verse 18 thru 24.) He that does not love Me does not keep My Word: And the Word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father's Who sent Me. Paul gives witness to David's warning in Psalm 95. So then, through the writers of scripture, we will witness that not all who are called, will be obedient to God's calling that Promises to give rest to the soul of man.
The Infinite God dwelling in Eternity, created the fabric of time, and in the flow of time, from the beginning to the end, the Almighty foreknew those who, upon hearing His calling Word, would obey His Word that promised rest. Those, He justified, He predestinated to be conformed into the glorious image of His Only Begotten Son, Jesus/Yeshua haMashiach. (See Romans 8 verse 28 thru 30.) In David's Psalm 95, the Spirit of God calls out: Today, if you will hear His Voice: Then harden not your hearts, as in the provocation in the wilderness, when your fathers tempted Me and provoked Me: So I swore in My wrath, they shall not enter into My Rest. The provocation in the wilderness took place at what would be called Massah Mirabah.
At that time, the congregation of Israel had journeyed to Rephidim, and found no water to drink. Wherefore the people argued with Moses and said: Give us water that we may drink. Moses said unto them: Why argue with me? Why do you provoke the Lord? (See Exodus 17 verse 3). Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said: It is a people that do err in their heart, and have not known My Ways: Unto them I swore in My wrath that they should not enter into My Rest. (Psalm 95 verse 11.) Those that did not enter into God's rest, were those who at their beginning journey with Moses, continued in sin's death and unbelief, and whose carcasses would rot in the desert. And so the author writes: Let us fear (God) less a promise being left off, of us entering into His Rest, and any of you come up short of the Promise. (See Hebrews 3 verse 15 thru 19, chapter 4 verse 1.)
With David speaking of "Today, if you will hear His Voice"; we are to know that today could be any one of the seven days of the week, and while that day is yet called today and not a tomorrow that may not come, then do not close your ears to the Infinite Lord's beckoning call to freedom within His Love that fosters our obedient faith. While it is yet today, then choose today if you will serve the Lord, for today is the beginning day to live for the Lord! (See Joshua 24 verse 14 thru 15.) Take heed brethren, lest there be in any of you of an evil heart of unbelief, causing you to depart from the Living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called today; lest any of you be hardened thorough the deceitfulness of sin. (Hebrews 3 verse 12 thru 13.) Why would one abandon the call of the Creator of all goodness, and return to their folly and succumb to the deceit of sin?
Today's day of unrest is just like any day of unrest within David's time; It is a people that do err in their heart, and have not known My Ways: (Psalm 95:10.) Where do we begin to find understanding in the Way of God? For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits Eternity, whose Name is Holy; I dwell in the High and Holy Place: Also with him that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones. (See Isaiah 57 verse 15 thru 18.) The Almighty God gives rest to the humble contrite souls who seek God with all their being, but God will strike down to the dust of the earth the earthly person who remains in their wickedness. Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord. Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be white as snow. Though they be like crimson, they shall be as wool. If you are willing and obedient, then you will eat the good of the land: But if you refuse and rebel, then you shall be devoured with the Sword: For the Mouth of the Lord has spoken it. (Isaiah 1 verse 18 thru 20.) Perchance of conviction, is today the day when the way of humility may be found in the soul of God's creation?
Again we are able to perceive God's Way in His Eternal Word of Life, for, Thus says the Lord: The heaven is My throne, and the earth is My footstool: What then is the house that you have built for Me, and where is the place of My rest. but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and that trembles at My Word. (See Isaiah 66 verse 1 thru 5.) From the beginning of time, the Lord declared that He had created all things, and any thing that earthly man would make, it came from the Almighty's creation of the earth. Solomon would build and earthly temple in the Promised Land for the glory of God, and a place where the Eternal God could provide rest for His select people. But even Solomon's finished earthly temple that God had hallowed, became defiled by His chosen people's earthly ways. The first Temple was totally destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 BCE. There is the real possibility that the Prophet Jeremiah, knowing before hand of the coming Babylonian siege, had the Arc of the Covenant, and tabernacle contents hidden in a sealed cavern beneath Mount Mariah.
God knows those who belong to Him, but many of the called, become lost within their own unbelief in Holy God's unchangeable Holiness. Let no man deceive himself. Know you not that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is Holy, which temple you are. If any man among you seems to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. (See 1st Corinthians 3 verse 16 thru 21.) Whether Jew of Gentile, the Holy Word of God remains constant, so that those who are perishing today, would come to know the infallible Truth of the Almighty's Word, before the end of the day.
You ought to be Teachers
In His letter, Paul admonishes the new Jewish believers: This is the time that you ought to be teachers, but you have need that one teach you again the first principles of the Word of God. (See Hebrews 5 verse 9 thru 14.) In these verses the writer reprimands the Jews, as if they were suckling babies in dire need of the pabulum of the Word of God, rather than being skilled individuals who should know the scriptures and God's Way of Righteousness. Apparently, Paul, believing that they would know the bare fundamentals, says: Therefore leaving the principles of the Doctrine of Christ/Messiah, let us go on unto maturity; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works (the actions of sin) and faith toward God. Today is the day if you will hear His Voice. The dead works, we are to repent from, are iniquitous sin that breads death. In abandoning the shackles of sin, we are to have faith in Holy Yahweh God and that His Promises in Messiah Yeshuah/Jesus will not fail in the Truth. Wherein God, willing more abundantly to show unto the heirs of Promise the immutability of His Council, confirmed it by an Oath: (See Hebrews 6 verse 17 thru 20.)
However, Paul gives a severe warning: For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the Heavenly Gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, and tasted the good Word of God and the Power of the world to come, if they should fall away, to renew them again unto repentance, (Paul speaks of falling away in 2nd Thessalonians 2 verse 3.) seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh and put Him to an open shame. (See Hebrews 6 verse 4 thru 9.) Paul's warning message is repeated in Hebrews 10 verse 28 thru 30.
From the beginning, it was imperative that the Lord Jesus/Yeshua would totally fulfill the righteous Word of God in the Torah. (See Genesis 3 verse 15.) The Word of God was conceived in the original genetic flesh derived from the first Adam, and became the last Hebrew Man, the Christ/Messiah and the Holy One of God. The Man, Jesus/Yeshua, kept the whole heart of the Torah, and then was crucified to death for mankind's nature of sin. Upon rising from the dead, by the Power of the Eternal Holy God, the Son of Man/Adam, Jesus, Yeshua haMashiach, became the Lord our Righteousness. Jesus Christ, our Righteousness and Peace with God, brought an end to the animal sacrifices and all of the former works within the Torah pertaining to the sacrifice. Those sacrifices expressed within the Law (Torah) could never bring God's justifying peace to the conscience of sinful man kind. For the Almighty gave His own peace offering in the Love of His Only Begotten Son, Yeshua, and whosoever believes in the Messiah should not perish in sin, but find Eternal Life. In Christ Jesus, alone, does an obedient believer have rest from the weariness of the sin in this world. And the Lord Jesus said: These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: But be of good cheer: I have overcome the world. (John 16 verse 33.) Come unto Me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me; for I Am meek and lowly in heart, and you shall find rest unto your souls. My yoke is easy and My burden is Light. (Matthew 11 verse 28 thru 30.)
We witness in Deuteronomy 28 the Song of Moses, and of Holy God's separating judgment against the people that He had delivered from Egypt. And among these nations thou shall find no ease, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest: but the Lord shall give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind. (Deuteronomy 28 verse 65.) Consider the text: Neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest. Interestingly, we see at what is called the Last Supper, the Lord Jesus washing the feet of His disciples. Abiding in Christ Jesus, all believers can find rest in their Lord within the humility of our faith in His Sacrificial Provisions of His Body and Blood that He deemed as Life provided by His Spirit of Grace.
The 10 northern tribes of Israel, with their rebellious ways, mingled themselves with other peoples and were already dispersed among the heathen nations that were just like themselves. Shortly there after, God called Isaiah, first to prophecy of the vision he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. Judah and Jerusalem, similar to the 10 northern tribes of Israel, also continued in their own un-repentant vanity within their self centered minds. Isaiah calls the people to hear the Word of the Lord: To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? Says the Lord, I AM full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats. (See Isaiah 1 verse 10 thru 16.) God's true expectation in His Mercy, was looking for true godly repentance of the people, and not what became the vain oblations of the children of Judah and Jerusalem. (See Isaiah 18 thru 20.)
With the coming advent of the Promised Messiah, then at the last of his writings, the prophet Isaiah had forewarned Judah and Jerusalem, of God's rebuke, to what had become in their vanity, a token offering of the animal sacrifices to satisfy God: "He that kills an ox, is as if he slew a man. He that sacrifices a lamb, as if he cut off a dog's neck. He that offers an oblation, as if he offered swine's blood. He that burns incense, as if he blessed an idol. Yes, they have chosen their ways, and their souls delight in their abominations. (Isaiah 66 verse 3.) God's Way was to give rest to His people in relieving them of their sins, but they chose their own way of unbelief and delighted to continue in their own wickedness. For the wicked are like the troubled sea when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, for the wicked, says my God. (Isaiah 57 verse 20 thru 21.)
We have witnessed, in the prophetic writings of Isaiah, that the animal sacrifices were berated by God for their ineffectiveness to deal with the licentiousness of the people; and more importantly, His Messiah Yeshua/Jesus was to come in the flesh of the first Adam/Man, and bring in His Father's New Covenant in His Own Life giving Blood. Now as far as the Almighty God of the heart was and is concerned, the animal sacrifices became a ritual of none affect upon the people of Israel. Humility was virtually missing within His chosen people.
Trying to circumvent Jewish Apostasy
As the writer of Hebrews expands his thoughts, he is speaking to the Jews that were vacillating in their understanding of God's New Covenant in the Blood of Christ Jesus verses the old Mosaic Covenant in the blood sacrifice's of animals. At issue was the beginnings of a Jewish apostasy, with their returning to the Jewish traditions they may have practiced in the Mosaic law. The new Jewish converts, having come to a new faith in the Christ of God, were being warned not to return to the sanctuary, made by human hands. They must not fall back on the old covenant with the Jewish animal sacrifices that the Levitical priesthood performed in their daily work for the sins of the people of Israel. There are several possibilities we might consider. The persecution of the new Messianic converts, by the high priest and Sadducees, perhaps leaving some of the converts pondering in their minds whether the trial of their faith was worthwhile. Also some of the Jewish converts would have been among the priest that had come to faith in God's Promised Messiah. (See Acts 6 verse 7.) But now those priest fearing the loss of their positional work in the synagogues, might have thought to return to their former work.
Therefore, Paul sought to bring to the Jewish convert a greater clarification to the superiority of God's New Covenant in the Life Blood of the righteous Man Yeshua haMashiach, (Jesus, the Christ of God,) When Jesus Christ came, as the sent Word of His Father Yahweh God, of eternal necessity He was incarnately born in the flesh of Man/Adam, then as Man, Jesus totally fulfilled the righteousness within the Torah of God. In the beginnings of God's calling to faith in God, the new Jewish converts had an understanding that Christ Jesus was crucified to death, as an atonement for the sins of death. As proof for the accepted atonement, Yahweh raised Christ Jesus from the dead. The atonement was not only for the Jew, but as they would discover, also for the gentiles of the world. (see Acts 10 verse 44 thru 48.) The Risen Lord became our Righteousness and brought an end to the sacrificial works of the Law that could never justify the heart of sinful man kind.
God's Highest standards for holiness has never changed. In the old Covenant with Israel, the Almighty Holy God desired the willing heart of His people to begin to approach Him in the Holy Place with a spirit of humility, and then in His Mercy their sin was covered over through the substitutionary blood offerings of God's own animal creations. (See Leviticus 17 verse 11 thru 12.) The God of the living, provides all of the necessary provisions for the life of His people. The people of Israel could eat of the flesh of the animal, but were forbidden to eat of the life blood of the animal sacrifice. God's final Provision for the life of man is within the Life Blood of the Man Christ Jesus our Living Mediator. God's Covenant for the life of man kind, was eternally set before the foundation of the world, when God's Passover Lamb of Messiah Yeshua/Jesus was already crucified in God's creation of time. With the treason of the first Man/Adam, God gave His Word in the Garden of Eden, and established the fact that the genetic seed of His creation of Adam would be perpetuated through Adam's wife, Ishshah. Within the fabric of time, a last Hebrew virgin woman, would give birth to the Word of God made of the flesh of Adam, and He, as the Man Yeshua would break the power of sin and death.
The duties of the Levitical priesthood along with their daily animal sacrifices, was a 'work of sacrifice' within the Law of Moses, made for Israel's sins that would make a substitutionary atonement for the soul's of the people of Israel. For it is the blood that makes an atonement for the soul. (Leviticus 17 verse 11.) Also note, that the Law of God, within the Ten Commandments, is spiritual, and the law in Commandments works spiritual condemnation bringing an awareness of the offences within man's consciousness. There are no justifying physical works that are possible in God's Ten Commandments. We should have come to understand the spiritual affect of the Decalogue with Paul's lamenting discovery of the other spiritual Law of Sin and Death that exists within the corrupted flesh of all of humanity. If the Commandments of God work to reveal and condemn unseen sin that innately exists in the flesh of all of man kind, then there are no human efficacious works within the Spiritual Law of God's 10 Commandments that could justify any human. Too avoid confusion in God's 10 Commandment Law's verses the separating Law of Sin and Death, then see "The Law, a Quagmire of Confusion".) A noted evangelist, Leonard Ravenhill said: "When there's something in the Bible that churches don't like, they call it legalism.
This letter of exhortation to the Jews was written by a redeemed Jewish author, who knew the workings of the Mosaic Law, with its priesthood and the settings of the earthly Tabernacle made by the hands of earthly man. The redeemed author, again probably Paul writing from Italy, was warning the new Jewish converts to not waver in their new found faith because of the absolute sufficiency of God's New and Eternal Covenant Sacrifice in the Life Blood of the Almighty's only Begotten Son Yeshua/Jesus. All things of the Gospel pertain to the Eternal's Unfailing Word of Promise, that Yahweh gave in the Garden of Eden, and in God's ordained time, His First Born Word was conceived in the ovum of the Hebrew Woman named Mary. (See Pentecost.) For God to be Holy True, then Holy God's Holy Word of Promise must be born of the genetic flesh of the first Adam/Man. Satan, the destroyer of faith in the Word of God, would not be able to accuse Jesus Christ, the righteous Word of God of even His genetics that His Holy Father preserved within time from the first Man Adam. (See Seduction of Man.) Now with a Son's Perfect Love and obedience to His Father God, Jesus would defeat the entity of sin and death. (See Creation of Man.)
Until Christ would come, as the Son of Man, God Almighty in His Mercy would institute the original Covenant in the blood of the domestic animals suitable for sacrifice. The many ordered covenant sacrifices were to be maintained by the Levitical priesthood of the son's of Aaron, as a rite that God established for His forgiveness of the acknowledged sins of the repentant children of Israel. The people of Israel were not to be ignorant of sin, for God's Decalogue of Commandments was given beforehand to Moses on Mount Sinai to expose the corrosive nature of sin within the spirit that is conceived within the minds of the children of Israel. Afterwards, the Wisdom of God established His Council of conduct within the whole of the Torah/Instructions that He gave to Moses. All of the instructions in righteousness were designed by God to protect the True genetic lineage of Adam through the faithful children of Israel.
The children of the nation of Israel, in their flesh of sin, would fail many times to keep the Heart of God's Divine Purpose that He declared from the beginnings of time. When Israel repented, then God would repent of the evil He would have brought against Israel. Israel's unfaithfulness would eventually break the heart of their Covenant with the Word of God, and no amount of animal sacrifices or other works of righteousness could ever suffice for sin's power in the flesh, then and now. God, in His Eternal Understanding, would bring judgments upon the children of Israel, to segregate the True Seed of His Promised Salvation. Adonai, faithful to His Word, would oversee time's circumstances, and in His foreknowledge of time, He would bring forth His Word of Salvation to be conceived in the ovum of Mary, a generational daughter of Adam. The virgin Mary would give birth to God's Incarnate First Born Son, in the genetics of the first Adam. For I will put enmity between you (Satan) and Woman (Ishshah), and between thy seed and her seed. He shall crush your head, and you shall bruise His heel. The Holy One of God's Salvation, with His crucifixion death, and then with His bodily resurrection into the Life of His Father, Jesus Christ accomplished all that Yahweh God had sent Him to do. Now that Christ lives forever, He makes intercession forever for the believing of man kind.
For the Lord swore, and will not repent: Thou art a High Priest forever, after the order of Malchizedek.
According to the Lord's Oath revealed in the Psalms, Paul writes to the notable Jews: For the priesthood being changed, then there is the necessity to change the law. The change in the law was not an obliteration of the Torah, but the change was for the the complete alimentation of animal sacrifices: For the (animal sacrifices in the) Law made nothing perfect; but the (the Offering of Christ) brought in a better hope, by which we are able to draw nigh to God. (See Hebrews 7 verse 11 thru 20.) The daily offerings of the sacrificial animal for sin, only precipitated the eventual death of the performing Levitical priest, who each were bound in their own sin leading to death. Of course. the sacrifice of the animal, also precipitated the death of the people who were of the priest's like corrupted nature. (See Hebrews 10 verse 11 thru 12.) The sacrificial offering of the life blood of an animal of its kind, could never give life to the souls of man that are of its own distinct kind, made even after the image of God. The better hope of the risen Christ of God, eliminated the sacrifice of the animals for sin, and thus the need for the priest that offered the daily sacrifices.
In that He (the Almighty) said, A New Covenant, He has made the first old. Now that which decays and waxes old is ready to vanish away. ( Hebrews 7 verse 13.) The first covenant was based on the Levitical Priesthood and their daily works of animal sacrifices that were performed on earth. Because of God's oath and His total Satisfaction with Christ's Offering of Himself, then there was a change in the Levitical Priesthood to that of the forever Priesthood of Jesus Christ, made of God, after the eternal order of Malchizedek. With a change from an earthly ministry of the finite priest, into the Eternal Heavenly ministry of Jesus Christ, then the earthly animal sacrifices with the Levitical priesthood would eventually pass away. Both the animal sacrifices and the Levitical priesthood were finally sanctioned, when Rome destroyed the Jerusalem Temple on the 9th of Av (Tisha b'Av) in the year of 70 AD.
For this High Priest (Sworn of God to be of the everlasting order of Malchizedek) is absolutely necessary for us, Who is Holy, harmless, undefiled being separated from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; Who needs not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice for his own sins, and then for the people's: For this He (Jesus Christ) did once, when He offered up Himself. (See Hebrews 7 verse 21, verse 26 thru 28.)
Christ Jesus gave Himself once as a Presentation Offering called Chagagah, that was exceptionally pleasing to His Holy Father God. The first Adam was unloving in his treasonous disobedience to His Maker, but the Last Adam, being the very last genetic Son of Man presented Himself to Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God Almighty, with a Son's Perfect Love and Obedience. Now Holy Yahweh was Eternally Pleased with Christ's Perfect Presentation Offering of a loving Son. Indeed Yahweh God's Holy Word did not return to Him void, but finished the Work Yahweh God Almighty had ordained of His Lamb slain from before the foundation of the world. (See all of Isaiah 55 verse 3 thru 11.) The first Adam/Man brought death to all of mankind, but God's Word conceived in the original generational flesh of Adam, returned to the Almighty God in absolute victory over man's sin and death. Christ's victory eternally established God's New Covenant Word of Life to be with man kind. Therefore, Yahweh God Almighty swore an Oath to His Holy One: Thou art My Son: (Psalm 2 verse 7.) Thou art a Priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek. (Psalm 110 verse 4.) (See text from Hebrews 5 verse 5 thru 10.)
The Word of God, at the Will of His Father, came down from heaven as the True Bread of Heaven, and the Bread of Life was born of the flesh of Adam/Man; So then it is this Man after He had offered His one sacrifice for sin forever, sat down on the Right Hand of His Holy Father. The Jew was to understand that there are no more continuing sacrifices of animals to set aside the sin of mankind. For while the first covenant stood only in dead works offered in meats, and drinks, and various washings, and in carnal ordinances imposed on them until the time of reformation. Some believe that time of reformation is a return to God's first order. For God's Gift of Faith is to be Living fully in the Way, the Truth and the Life that is in Christ Jesus Alone. Christ Jesus/Yeshua, having died once for sin, and raised by the Spirit of God from the dead, reveals God's eternal satisfaction with the Man Jesus Christ and His perfect Presentation Offering of Himself. Christ's offering of Himself, has ended all animal sacrifices forever, as well as the carnal sacrifices of all of sinful mankind. Now with the remission (meaning obliteration) of these is (meaning animal sacrifices), there is no more (animal) sacrifices for sin. (Hebrews 10 verse 18.) The sin of the first Adam brought death to all of mankind, but the Sacrificial death of the Last Adam with His sinless Life as a Man, has conquered death for all time for His conquest is revealed in His Resurrection from the dead. Now the Life giving Spirit of His Father, Jesus the Messiah would bring Life to the souls of all of sinful man kind that obediently follow God's Saving Gift of Life in Yeshua haMashiach (Jesus the Christ of God).
So Christ once was offered to bear the sins of many. And to those that look for Him, He shall appear the second time without sin, unto Salvation.
Bleeding into Chapter Ten
For the Law (with it's sacrifices) having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image or the things, can never with those animal sacrifices, which they offered year after year, make the comers (those that approach God) complete. (Hebrews 10 verse 1.)
For the Word, when He had come into the world said: Sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings for sin Thou would not accept, neither had pleasure therein. Then said He: Lo I come to do Thy Will O God. He takes away the first, that He may establish the second. (See Hebrews 10 verse 4 thru 10 in conjunction with Psalm 40 verse 6 thru 10.) The Word of God, being the Christ of God, fulfills the heart of the Scriptures; for He takes away the first (covenant) that He may establish the second (Covenant). So we see in Scripture that the second covenant is established with the Third Cup of Blessing, when Jesus/Yeshua inaugurated at the Passover Table, His Father God's New Covenant in Christ's Life Blood. Yeshua/Jesus is God's --- Passover, meaning God's sacrificial Lamb; for God's Passover was slain before the foundation of the world. If the princes of this world had know, then they would never have crucified the Lord of Glory. (See 1st Corinthians 2 verse 7 thru 9.) All was finalized at the cross with Jesus/Yeshua's crucifixion death. Now then, if the Christ of God had not risen from the dead in the Perfection of His Holy Father, then God's Word is void, and all of mankind are dead in their sins; and in the void, nothing exist. Yet here we are!
In God's New Covenant for fallen mankind, Yahweh established His finale Eternal Covenant in the perfect sacrifice of the selfless Life of His Incarnate Son, the Son of Man/Adam. (See Hebrews 9 verse 23 thru 28.) So Christ was once G0530 offered to bear the sins of many: and unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time without sin unto Salvation. Then said He: Lo I come to do thy will O God. It is by His Father God's Will, that we are G2070 (to be) set apart (sanctified) through Jesus Christ's offering of His Body once,G2078 for all .
We see the necessity of Christ's one Substitutionary Sacrifice for sin in Paul's following logic: For every priest stands daily ministering and offering many times the same (animal) sacrifices, which can never take away sins; But this Man (Christ Jesus) after He had offered one sacrifice for sins, for ever sat down on the right Hand of His Father God. (Hebrews 10 verse 11 thru 12.) Christ Jesus, as the Son of Adam, with His selfless offering of Himself in total obedience to God, totally satisfied the rebellious sin of the first Man Adam and all of Adam's offspring. God patiently waits for all that will hear His Calling to return to Him.
Hebrews' 10 verse 14 says: For by one offering He has perfected (completed) for ever them that are sanctified. Confusion in this verse and others is rampant in the church. Consider with profound understanding that those who are perfected, are those that are sanctified. Sanctification is not a one time thing in God's Covenant, but is carried forth in the daily life of the obedient believer. (Disciples See Luke 9 verse 23 thru 24.) The crux of this statement was previously qualified in Hebrews 5 verses 8 thru 10. Though He (Christ) were a Son, yet learned He obedience by the things which He suffered: And being made Perfect, He became the Author of Eternal Salvation unto all them that 'obey Him': Called of God an High Priest after the order of Melchizedek. --- Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on Him. If you continue in My Word, then you are My disciples indeed. You shall know the Truth and the Truth shall set you free. (John 8 verse 31 thru 32.) I AM the Truth! I AM not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Jesus, The Truth, Whom all things of the universe consist, said to His disciples: This is My Blood of the New Covenant that is shed for many for the remission of sin. God's Eternal Sacrifice, for sin and death is accomplished once and for all time, in the Body and Blood of His Hebrew Messiah.
My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord, nor faint, when you are rebuked of Him. For whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives. If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the Father chastens not? For if you are without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are you bastards, and not sons. Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? (Hebrews 12 verse 5 thru 9.)
For it is the blood
that makes an atonement for sin.
(Leviticus 17 verse 11.)
With the one Selfless Offering of God's Holy One, the old animal sacrifices for sin, along with the Levitical priesthood, had been remitted by Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God the Almighty. (See Hebrew 10 verse 18.) Now Christ Jesus the Man, with His perfect Sacrifice of Love to His Father, has made, for the faithful of believing man kind, an entrance into the Holiest Place of His Holy Father Yahweh God. The Heavenly Entrance into the Holiest Place, not made with human hands, is gained only through the veil that is the flesh of our High Priest, the faithful Man Jesus/Yeshuah the Messiah, where He then cleansed us with the sprinkling of His Sanctifying Life Blood. It was Christ's Life within His Blood alone that makes an atonement for the soul of the believer: I AM the Way, I AM the Truth, I AM the Life of man. No one comes to the Father except by Me. The sin that innately remains in the self centered nature of our human earthly flesh, does not ever come into the Presence of Holy Yahweh God Almighty. That Entrance into the Holy of Holies, where Christ's Father God reigns, is only though the undefiled Body of the Man Christ Jesus and His Life giving Blood. The disciples of the Way and the Truth and the Life are to remember the fullness of God's New Covenant of Love that is forever established in the Holy Blood Sacrifice of Yahweh's only Begotten Son Yeshua/Jesus the Messiah. For it is the blood that makes an atonement for sin. Christ's Provisions for abundant Life are established in the Eternal Word of His Father, and His Body and Blood are ministered in and through God's Spirit of Grace that cannot be separated from the Water and Blood of Christ Jesus. (See 1st Corinthians 10 verse15 thru 17.)
Remembering the Therefore
We all, Jew and Gentile alike, can find corrective relief from our omission or commission the sin's of our earthly flesh. In our humble confession, our sins are covered over by the Perfect Love of our High Priest, the Man Christ Jesus; for sin is cleansed within the conscience of the believers with their faithful fellowship in the Communal Thanksgiving Offering of the Messiah's Body and Life Blood. Because of our faith in the Fellowship Blood of Christ Jesus, which the Lord inaugurated at His Passover Table of Unleavened Bread, we, having eaten of the One Bread and being cleansed in the Life Blood of Christ's Spirit of Holiness, are given Grace to enter into the Presence of Holy, Holy, Holy Yahweh Lord God Almighty, and present our supplications to His Throne of Grace. (See Hebrews 10 verse 19 thru 25.) The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing: For in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving (Eucharistia) let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (See Philippians 4 verse 5 thru 7.)
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God Almighty maintains through His Spirit of Grace, His cleansing Grace in the Life Blood of His Son, given for the sins of the flesh of believing man kind. Indeed, Salvation and Justification by faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ Jesus, our Righteousness, has come to the believing soul through Father God's Gift of His and Christ's Holy Spirit of Truth, but nevertheless, the nature of idolatrous sin remains in the corrupting idolatrous flesh of our fallen humanity. Sanctification of the flesh is by God's Spirit of Grace within God's New Covenant established in the Life Blood of Jesus Christ. (See Revelation 21 verse 5 thru 7.) The believer can not serve God in the strength of his flesh, but we are to serve God by His Spirit of Grace, becoming ambassadors of God through the Grace of God's Holy Spirit of Life.
The absolute perfection of Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God Almighty requires absolute perfection for anyone to come within His Holy Sanctuary that is made without the hands of man, and into His Holy Presence. This required perfection could never be achieved by sinful mankind, nor could the blood sacrifices of animals that were continually performed by the sin laden priest of the old covenant make for holy entrance into the tabernacle made by the hand of man. Only once a year, on the Day of Atonement (Rosh Hashanah) occurring on the 1st of Tishrei, the 7th month of the Jewish Calendar, was the high priest of Israel allowed to enter with fear and trepidation into the Holy of Holies to present the sprinkling of the blood of animals upon the mercy seat of the Tabernacle.
Now with the remission (meaning obliteration) of these is (meaning animal sacrifices), there is no more (animal) sacrifices for sin. (Hebrews 10 verse 18.)
Therefore, remember the "Therefore" that is established in the next passages. For this therefore encapsulates the purpose of all of the previous arguments from the last therefore, and unifies Holy God's Covenant as One Spirit in the Body and Blood of God's Offering of His only Begotten Son. Having "therefore" brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest place by the Blood of Jesus/Yeshua, by a new and living Way, which He has consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say His Flesh (The Bread of Life); and having a High Priest over the House of God, let us draw near with a true heart, in full assurance of faith (in God's Word of Mercy), having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience (by His Blood) and our bodies (of sin) washed with pure water (by God's Spirit of Holiness). (See Hebrews 10 verse 19 thru 23.) Note that our fleshly bodies of sin were washed in the Fountain Water that flows in the Blood from the Spirit of Grace that is within Christ Jesus. The Blood of Christ Jesus is given by the Almighty's Spirit for the remission of the current sins of admission for all humble baptized believers.
Please take notice in the linked places in the Books of Matthew and Mark, then you will see that while the disciples were yet eating of the flesh of the old covenant passover (sacrificial lamb) that Jesus/Yeshua brought to a close the old Covenant in the sacrificial blood of animals, when He inaugurated the Everlasting Covenant in the fullness of His Body and Blood.
For if we sin willfully
Now let us try to lessen our confusion in following the subsequent context of the Letter to the Hebrews, beginning with chapter 10 verse 26: For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the Truth (God's Truth is the Person Christ Jesus); then there remains no more sacrifices for sin. The Absolute Truth of Christ Jesus was established by all of Paul's prior arguments leading up to the therefore in Hebrews chapter 10 verse 19. Paul is amplifying the eternal fact that Jesus Christ is God's finale sacrifice for the sin of all of mankind, and in context, there are no more justifying animal sacrifices that would in any way please God. God's New Covenant is eternally established in the Blood of His Word and Son, Jesus Christ. This is My Blood of the New Covenant shed for many for the remission of sin. Whereby, God's Spirit of Grace, covers the current sins derived from the flesh of a humble person, through God's New Covenant established in the shed Blood of Jesus the Christ of God.
The author Paul is addressing the conscience of all of those Jews that came to a beginning faith in Jesus Christ, the very Truth of God. Now that they have become new born babes baptized into the Messiah, they were set apart, having been initially cleansed of all past sins. (See Romans 3 verse 23 thru 26.) Nevertheless, they will continue to struggle with the desires of their flesh. If our Covenant with God is in the Blood of Jesus Christ, why would we look to another way to justify our wrong doings.
And so it is written in Hebrews 10 verse 29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose you, shall he be thought worthy, who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the Blood of the Covenant, wherewith he 'was' sanctified, (set apart) an unholy thing, and has done despite unto the Spirit of Grace? The Spirit of Grace is One with the Water and the Blood of Jesus Christ, and the Communion Blood of God's new Covenant is One with the Word of God.
In the above Scripture, we bring attention to the assumed past tense word 'was ήταν • (ítan) ' 3rd person singular imperfect form of .: "he/she/it/ was". Within the new birth there is a new beginning of life, through the Baptismal Serum Water from the Life Blood of the Man Jesus Christ that completely obliterated the past sins of the believer. God is just, and He justifies the soul of the new believer, just like the soul of the original Adam was just before he and his wife rebelled against God. In his rebellion, Adam did not seek God's Mercy and Grace, but justified himself for his insurrection, and lost God's Spirit of True Life. In the beginning verses in 2nd Peter 1 thru 8, Peter speaks about the virtues that the believer in Christ is to promote within his soul. Then Peter also confirms the past tense of the Hebrew writer, with his own admonishment: But he that lacks these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and has forgotten that he 'was ήταν' purged from his old sins. (2nd Peter 1 verse 9.) See that you refuse not Him that speaks. For if they did not escape who would not hear Him that spoke on earth, (at Mount Sinai) much more shall we not escape, if we turn away from Him that speaks from heaven. (See Hebrews 12 verse 18 thru 26.)
Sin begets sin and death, for the nature of the man of flesh is mired in self that elevates it self before others and even commends ourselves to the all-knowing Holy God of the universe. Within the idolatry of man there are many of those that are wise in their own separatist dogmas, and have declared themselves to have a superior understanding of scripture, and now declare that they are no longer accountable to sin. Witness for yourselves that God's Holy Spirit is the Fountain of Life: For My people have committed two evils; they have forsaken Me the Fountain of Living Waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. (Jeremiah 2 verse 13.) I have heard from the pulpit that, "It is impossible for us to sin". There is no Godly Wisdom in this statement that was erroneously extracted from the first Epistle of John, and other Scriptures. But contrary wise, the Word of Holy God in John's Epistle begins by saying: If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the Truth is not in us. If we say that we have no sin, we make God a liar, and His Word is not in us. (See 1st John 1 verse 8 thru 10.) Those who are being saved by God's Grace, will allow for God to continue His repair of the breech of our souls; and they will not continue to allow themselves to be in the deception of gross sin, showing that in their flesh, they are broken cisterns that cannot hold the Truth.
The enemy of our souls is well pleased when we give license to our corrupted flesh to follow our own self centered will. In Satan's deception, we allow divisive sin to continually annul Christ's imperative call for genuine repentance with the remission of acknowledged sin. The Flow of the Water of the Holy Spirit of God and His Christ, allows for God's cleansing sanctification within Christ's Communion Life Blood, given by the Almighty's Spirit of Grace. The Life Blood of Christ alone, allows for His sanctified believers, within His Body, to enter into the Presence of Holy, Holy, Holy Yahweh, the Lord God Almighty. Without humility there is no repentance, without repentance there is no remission of sin, without the remission of sin there is the absence of the cleansing Grace of Holy God's Spirit within the conscience of man. However, in our obedience to the Will of God in Christ Jesus, sin is not to have dominion over us, for in our true repentance from the power of sin, God's Holy Spirit of Grace leads us in the Way, and the Truth and the Life of His Son, the Lord our Righteousness. (See Romans 6 verse 10 thru 18.)
Do you think that the Scripture says in vain: The spirit with in us lusts to envy. But He gives more Grace: Wherefore (therefore) He says: God resists the proud, but gives more grace unto the humble. Therefore submit your selves to God, then resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, then God will draw near to you. Cleanse your hearts you double minded. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord. Be afflicted, and mourn and weep. Let you laughter turn to mourning and your joy to heaviness; then He shall lift you up. (See James 4 verse 5 thru 10.)
In this passage, James has given an admonishment to all of the elect of God. In our pride, we don't see ourselves as double minded, but that is exactly what we are. We are born again, and we are to follow the mind of God's Holy Spirit of Grace in Christ Jesus, but we also have the spirit of our own minds that is inclined to follow its own way that justifies its own thoughts. We have both the Spirit of the Mind of Christ, and the spirit of our own mind that lust in its envy. O wretched man that I am; Who will save me from this body of death.
See that you do not refuse Him that Speaks. For if they did not escape when they refused Him that spoke on the earth, then much more shall we not escape, if we turn away from Him that speaks from heaven. For our God is a consuming fire. (Hebrews 12 verse 24 thru 25, and verse 29.)
Jesus said unto His Disciple: Thus it is written, and so it behooved Christ to
suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
of sins should be preached in His Name among
all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.
(See Luke 24 verse 45 thru 48.)
We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat who serve the (earthly) Tabernacle. (Hebrews 13 verse 10.)
Jesus Christ is the Word of His Father God, and Jesus Christ is the Same yesterday, today and forever, then so is His Holy Father God the Almighty.
